The inscription on the granite obelisk in Hornsey High Street reads: ‘The fear of the Lord is the fountain of life. Presented to the parish of Hornsey by Maria Hawes Ware 1863’. The structure is listed and considered 'at risk' by English Heritage. The large pub is the Great Northern Railway Tavern which dates from 1897, and served customers coming out of London on the Great Northern Railway. The Victorian gin-palace still has its stunning original wooden paneling, wrought iron and glass. Hornsey High Street, Obelisk and Cattle Trough 2005 is copyright 2008.
